physicians, providing guidance in product development and claims validation.
Mary Lake Polan, M.D. Ph.D.--Gynecology and Obstetrics
Dr. Polan is Chair and Professor Emeritus of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Stanford University School of
Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a director of Wyeth (formerly American
Home Products). She also serves on numerous medical and health committees, including the Institute of Medicine, the National
Institutes of Health, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and the American Medical Women's Association
(AMWA). Dr. Polan holds a bachelor's degree from Connecticut College, and a doctorate in molecular biophysics and biochemistry and an M.D. from Yale University.
Beverly Whipple, Ph.D., RN, FAAN--Certified Sex Educator, Counselor, Researcher Dr. Beverly Whipple, a certified sexuality educator, sexuality counselor, and sex researcher, is the co-author of the international
best-seller, The G Spot and Other Discoveries About Human Sexuality, which has been translated into 19 languages and was
re-published as a Classic 23 years later in 2005. Her other books are Safe Encounters: How Women can say Yes to Pleasure
and No to Unsafe Sex, Smart Women, Strong Bones, Outwitting Osteoporosis, and The Science of Orgasm. Dr. Whipple is a
Professor Emerita at Rutgers University of NJ. She has a BS in Nursing from Wagner College, a Masters in Counseling, a
Masters in Nursing, and a PhD in Psychobiology, with a major in Neurophysiology, from Rutgers University. Her concern with
women's health derives naturally from her over forty years of helping women to feel better about themselves, as a nurse, a nurse
educator, and researcher. Her research focuses mainly on women's health issues and the sexual physiology of women. Dr.
Whipple is a member of a number of Honor Societies and received the Alumni Achievement Award in 1983 and was named An
Alumni Fellow in 2007 by Wagner College. Dr. Whipple was the President of AASECT (1998-2000), was the Vice President of
the World Association for Sexology (2001-2005), was on the Board of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual
Health (2002-2004), was the President of SSSS (2002-2003), is now the Secretary General of the World Association for Sexual
Health (WAS) (2005-2009) and is on the Board of the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (FSSS). Thomas Ito, M.D.--Urology
Dr. Ito is a specialist in the field of Urology. He is Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Hawaii, a member of the
Board of Directors for the Pacific Health Care Health Maintenance Organization, Chairman for the Medical Oversight Committee,
and Medical Director for the Kidney Stone Center of the Pacific. Dr. Ito is a graduate of the University of Chicago Medical School
and received his post-graduate training in general surgery and urology at the University of California, Irvine. Walter Chien, M.D. --Cardiology
Dr. Chien is an expert in the field of Cardiology and a specialist in the study of heart rhythm disturbances. He is also clinical
Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and visiting Professor at the Peking Union
Medical College of the Chinese Academy of Medical Science. Dr. Chien has published extensively in the field of cardiology and
electrophysiology, and is board certified in the fields of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Electrophysiology. Dr. Chien is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Kaye K. Kawahara, M.D.--Oncology Dr. Kawahara is a specialist in the field of Medical Oncology. He is an expert in bone marrow and stem cell transplantation and
is Director of Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Queen's Medical Center and St. Francis Medical Center in Honolulu. In
addition, Dr. Kawahara is Chief of Oncology Research at Queen's Medical Center. Dr. Kawahara is a graduate of Northwestern
University Medical School and completed his specialization in Cancer Medicine at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Jerome Hahn Kim, M.D. --Infectious Diseases
Dr. Kim is Assistant Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine's
Institute of Human Virology. Dr. Kim is also medical director to the Evelyn Jordan Clinical Center's Institute of Human Virology in
Baltimore, MD. An expert in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and in HIV research, Dr. Kim has authored and co-authored
chapters in over 50 scientific and medical publications and studies. A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Kim has won numerous awards in the fields of medicine and science. |
